Lighting is a key element in kitchen design, not just for it's functional element, but the aesthetic element as well. The lighting you choose for your kitchen can truly transform your space and take you from Mid-Century Modern to Hollywood Glam with one simple fixture. While the cabinetry style remains very similar take a look how the lighting in these modern kitchens completely changes the style and makes a really bold statement. A Mid-Century modern chandelier mixes so beautifully with charcoal veneer cabinetry, a chromed island, and herringbone floor. It adds playful character to an elegant kitchen.
Jonathon Adler Meurice Collection 30 Light Chandelier
The charcoal veneer cabinetry, marble island, and natural wood island table work perfectly with an industrial modern pendant. The nice clean lines and gorgeous silhouette of the pendant lights compliment the rough edges of the table while the bronze finish contrasts so nicely with the marble top yet blends so nicely with the cabinetry and the flooring. This is the perfect look to warm up any industrial modern loft!

Bronx 7-1/2" Wide Black Pendant
These sleek clean lines are gorgeous on their own, but adding that glamorous chandelier is like putting on the perfect necklace or pair of earrings. It adds an element of sophistication and femininity without taking away from the strong modern details that make this kitchen so beautiful.
Robert Abbey Bling Collection Chandelier
The organic shape of the chandelier really softens up the space. It's a great contrast to the hard elements of the concrete floor and brick wall and really adds movement and depth to an otherwise stark kitchen.
Possini White Cloud 15" Wide Pendant
For the minimalist at heart, one option is no decorative lighting and the other is a light as sleek and clean as its environment. These long tube like pendants stand their ground over this island without creating too much drama. The clean lines mimic the lines of the cabinetry and remain absolutely stunning in their simplicity.

In the big apple, the hottest residential properties are the ones that literally sit on top of it all. Whether you're writing a down-payment check or just salivating over the thought of it like me, there's no denying the allure of New York's building-topping, showstopping spaces (such as Jill Stuart's edgy apartment above).
There's hardly a bad view from the 52nd floor of the Bloomberg Tower either:
What could be more appropriate than Warhol's soup cans in the kitchen? Does everyone in New York have an art collection to die-for (or to at least retire on)?
And who says there's no view of the sky, stars or trees in the city?
Generous use of wood extends the natural theme of this lower Manhattan penthouse apartment to the indoors. Distinctive pendant lights and modern recessed lighting maintain the contemporary feel.

At a decent altitude, light and space are easy to come by in the city, as in this spacious Chelsea penthouse by designer Marie Burgos.
Burgos has also applied her magic to a loft in Tribeca. I love the modern pendant lights that hangs overhead and sought out the design at Euro Style Lighting. This style works for kitchen islands as well as dining room tables.

Sure, a penthouse apartment in New York will cost a bundle. Infusing your home with the aesthetic however (minus the view) is much less cost-prohibitive.

This modern San Francisco home has a newly added room with a view, making you wonder what the street possibly did without this modern addition.... And that's saying a lot, considering it's a really pretty San Francisco street. The modern structure fits in well with the neighboring homes, but the bold black hue makes it really stand out.
The metal bridge stretches and connects the newly added room to a patio. The vairous shades of gray between the bridge, patio and structure work perfectly together and are accented beautifully with the landscaping. Modern outdoor furniture, maybe even with some pops of color, would be the perfect addition to this space.
A perforated screen folds down over the south-facing facade of the newly added room to prevent overheating during the day. When the screen is raised, the home has amazing views of the San Francisco bay. The inside of this added room is white, clean and modern. Simple pendant lighting is the perfect choice when you want to keep a room minimal.

Here's a little round up to help you achieve a chic, modern dining room like the one in this cool San Francisco home. Although we may not be able to live in a home this cool and with that view, we can still find elements of inspiration that we can apply to our own home.
The Wythe Hotel located in the heart of Brooklyn, has been receiving many praises since opening in May of this year. This 8 story, 72-room urban hotel blends into the historic core of Brooklyn and it's prime waterfront location. The building itself, a former textile factory, has many impressive features and loads of character that have been beautifully preserved. Making this gem of a hotel shine brightly, but not too bright for it's surroundings.
The interiors stay true to the surroundings, mixing a modern edge into the decor and providing an impressive design. It is also a place you walk into and immediately feel like you're at home. The wood ceiling, exposed brick, and floor to ceiling grid windows are prominent elements throughout the hotel.
A gorgeous mix of grays, greens, blacks, and natural elements blend to create a warm and inviting space. Industrial wall sconces will always make a statement against exposed brick walls.
Bruno Collection Scissor Arm Pharmacy Plug-In Light
The rooms are minimal, full of natural light and feature brilliant views of the city.
Custom wallpaper makes a bold statement in the guestrooms allowing the black accents to really pop against.
A minimal black desk lamp can stand alone when paired with a contrasting material, such as cool reclaimed wood. The modern black leather chairs look as cozy as could be and are placed in a perfect spot to sip coffee and enjoy the views these beautiful windows provide.

Not only does that Wythe Hotel have a beautiful lobby and guestrooms, but Reynards Restaurant is the go-to place for locals and travelers alike. The impressive architecture, globe lighting, painted concrete tiles and exposed brick walls make this a gem of a space. Just look how cozy this place feels!
So whether you are a New Yorker or in New York with family, friends, your band or co-workers, Wythe Hotel is the perfect place for all. It's stays true to the Brooklyn vibe, with history providing tons of character.

Love the Yankees or hate the Yankees, they're always in the playoffs come October. And with that, it seems appropriate to pay tribute to the finer points of design with the luxury suites at the new Yankee Stadium.
In New York, America's past-time is all about luxury. With 56 luxury suites (compared to 19 in the old stadium), there's no shortage of big-ticket seating or big-ticket spenders. The Legends Suite (below) sets a muted mood in Yankees blue and white. Under cabinet lights and glowing frosted glass will help set the mood for any luxe interior.
The Audi Yankees Club is built for fans who want to keep their eyes fixed upon the field. European-inspired styling is sparse and functional with the right touch of class. In this case, turf centerpieces by floral designer Rachel Cho.
Everywhere you turn, there seems to be another suite. The Yankees Club suite (below) keeps things thematic yet elegant. Hi-definition screens play the game throughout the stadium, in case anyone forgets why they're at the ball park.
Top shelf amenities aren't just for the paying customers. With luxe tile finishes and frosted glass, the locker rooms are in step with the seven and eight figure salaries of the players who use them. Adding some bath bar lights in your home bathroom might help you feel almost as luxe.
At $1.5 billion, the new Yankee Stadium which opened in 2009, is a model of modern commercial design and the second most expensive stadium ever built in the world. However, with high-priced luxury boxes and VIP lounges becoming the new standard among stadiums and arenas, it might not be long before we see price-tags like this on a regular basis around the company.
