There is something about being outdoors, in nature, that is invigorating and refreshing. In my designs I always try and bring that outdoor energy indoors, too. One obvious way to do that is with houseplants, but there are many other ways to create that outdoorsy-vibe in the home as well.
An outdoorsy color-palette that includes various tones of greens, browns and blues brings the feeling of the hills, the skies and the fields into the home. Natural materials like wood, leather, jute, rattan and wool also help to bring the outdoors, in, and once that bright, open feeling is created through the addition of the right colors and textures, I like to add a little bit of pattern to the mix.
Patterns occur so much in nature--in the rich furs of animals, the bright scales of underwater dwellers, on the petals of flowers, in honeycombs and shells, in the way that trees dot the sides of a mountain--I like to bring in these patterns subtly. There is no better way to do this than through patterned details like lamp shades and accent pillows.
One paramount element to outdoor-inspired decor is bringing in the sunlight--one great way of doing this is to create a 'sun' in the home by including a statement sputnik lamp, especially a gold or brass one as a focal point in a room.

I don’t consider myself a glamorous girl, but every now and then some glam comes out and I love it! My favorite way to dress up a room with serious glamour style is by using black and gold.
This combination is dark, bright, chic and fun all at the same time! This room captures what I am talking about pretty well.
The black and gold accents all over the room make it look modern, but classic and oh, glamorous. We can’t forget that! It’s really easy to find black and gold items in stores these days. The trick is to put these together and watch what happens to your space.
1. Corbett Bangle Gold Tone 12-Inch-W Pendant 2. Anson Gold Leaf with Black 15-Inch-W Side Table 3. Possini Gold Leaf with Black Shade Obelisk Table Lamp
Let’s put some of these amazing and chic items to use in a room, shall we?
First this side table. I think I need this side table! It’s beautiful and it incorporates the black and gold together perfectly. It would look great in any space, even if you aren’t planning on making the whole room gold and black. The table might be enough.
But why stop there? This golden pendant light would be so beautiful hanging above an entry way, don’t you think?
Now for this table lamp. Man oh man do I love this lamp! The black and gold go perfectly together. So lovely. I really think I can’t do without it. Unique living room table lamps are a great way to achieve any style you're going for.
If you are thinking of going the glamorous gold and black route, I suggest you try it. You’ll love it!

BaseCamp Hotel is a boutique hotel located in Lake Tahoe. It reflects exactly what you might think from its name, the ideals and adventures of a base camp. A comfortable place where travelers can share stories and tips in communal spaces, rest up, and prepare for a day of exploration. Walk out the door and you're in the heart of South Lake Tahoe, just a five minute walk from exploring until your hearts content. The location is perfect, the price is affordable, and the design is a winner!
The wood clad wall, plaid wool blankets, raw wood table, and that adorable orange lantern table lamp combine to create the perfect rustic modern cabin feel. Whether you're traveling with children, friends, or small groups the bright orange lofted bunks are such a great solution to accommodate six people and really make you feel like you're at summer camp!
The orange desk chair works like a piece of art against this modern walnut desk (above). The deep red orange is very sophisticated and brings a lot of energy to this neutral room. The use of orange accent furniture provides bursts of color in any space and creates a very lively and playful effect.
Industrial modern bathroom lighting fixtures is a great way to define style in any space.
The bathrooms are not overly designed, but very simple and elegant with playful pops of orange. I am completely in love with this graphic shower curtain! I wonder where I get one for my house?! The natural oak vanity, industrial bathroom lighting, and white brick patterned tile give you that classic rustic modern feel that works so perfectly in the setting of Lake Tahoe.
The hotel doesn't open until June 20th, 2012 but I'd book a room now if you want to enjoy your wonderful summer getaway at BaseCamp! I know I do! Just look at all the exploring that's waiting for you!
