Not only do modern ceiling fans keep you cool, but they make your space look cool too! There's no need to buy one of those cheesy old ceiling fans anymore! There are so many amazing design options available for your modern home. Take a look at a few of our favorites!
A modern white ceiling fan can blend away into the ceiling or can be a great sculptural element if you decided to go with a darker, wood-finish ceiling as shown above.

Ever since my Las Vegas Market recap on design trends, we've had a few requests to elaborate on the modern rustic style. Since we love it, it is no problem at all for us to do so!
The goal when designing a rustic style room or home is to maintain comfort, warm colors, and lots of woods. Clean white walls help maintain the modern element. Also, clean lines in the furniture and accessories help keep your rustic home a modern home.
Natural materials like woods and leathers are a great way to incorporate a more rustic feel into your home. They incorporate nature into your decor in a very stylish way.
Make sure you mix up your materials, using leather, metals, glass and woods to achieve your modern rustic style.
1. Nickel Ceiling Fan 2. Smoke Glass Ball Pendant 3. Black Tufted Leather Sofa 4. Tripod Floor Lamp 5. Wenge Wood Stool 6. Wishbone Side Chair
The great thing about any style is that you don't have to re-design your entire home to achieve it, just adding a couple pieces like wood furniture or glass lighting will go a long way.
I'm so excited to introduce you to our new monthly series where I am going to explore how music inspires interior design! Let me introduce you to our first artist, Ellie Goulding!
Ellie Goulding's second album Halcyon is scheduled to be released in October 2012 and the newly released single "Anything Could Happen" just proves that it's not going to disappoint. Goulding's music is filled with deep emotion and her raw and soulful vocals are sure to inspire. She is one of several female artists stepping in to define the feminine side of EDM (electronic dance music), a scene more associated with DJ machismo than the introversion of female singer-songwriters. She's a bundle of feminine soul with a sharp edge that transforms beautifully into interior design.

This feminine, modern living room is filled with bits of glitz and glam and lots of spunk. Crisp geometric shapes mix with solid clean lines to create visual interest and a sophisticated, but energetic edge. The clean lines of a modern leather sofa along with the glass and metal sides tables do a really good job of grounding the other elements in the room. The sharp contrast of elements blends like the perfect remix.
9.Sweeping Chain Black Chandelier 10. Film Still 11. Aion A 12. Zuo Eraser White Dining Chairs 13. Zuo Wilco Black Dining Table
This modern dining room combines elements that evoke emotion much like Goulding's music does. It might be a little dark and moody, but the intimacy in this space is sure to captivate you. Combining sleek, modern furniture with contemporary pendant lighting adds personality and a feminine charm to the space. This is very similar to the way Goulding has meshed her music with the EDM movement. It's magical and thrilling, so now we just have to wait patiently for the release of Halcyon!
Hope you enjoyed this first post in our new series as much as you are about to enjoy Ellie Goulding's first single off her new album, "Anything Could Happen"

Believe the hype: LED lighting can help you save money. When looked at holistically, factoring in the cost of electricity over the lifetime of the bulb, a house full of LED lights could actually save you hundreds of dollars.
Let's do the math.
LED Is for the Long Term
According to GreenBiz.com: "A conventional 60-watt bulb lasts about 1,000 hours, uses 60 watts of electricity and costs $180 to run for 25,000 hours. The LED equivalent lasts 25,000 hours (nearly three years if you left it on 24/7), uses 12.5 watts and costs $37.50 to run for 25,000 hours." I've outlined the math below.
The calculations above are based on the Philips Ambient 12 Watt LED Medium Base Light Bulb, a light bulb that fits into any medium base fixture, intended to replace incandescent bulb usage. However, there are also tons of designs available with the LEDs built right into the design.
Save money by using LED lights in every room of the house:

Discover a Warmer, Gentler LED
You most likely have heard an incandescent bulb described as a "warm" light. This look or feel of the light is its color temperature. Lower color temperatures (in the range of 2700K to 3000K) appear yellow/white and, despite their lower color temperatures, are referred to as "warm" in color; higher color temperatures (5000K and higher) appear blue/white and, despite their higher color temperatures, are referred to as "cool."
LED lighting has typically been associated with these harsher looking higher color temperatures. But that is changing. Increasingly, LEDs are reaching down into the warm 3000K range, resulting in color akin to incandescent bulbs and much more natural light than most fluorescent lights.
The environmental impact of LED lighting is difficult to compare directly against other options, but the circumstantial data is encouraging.
Natural looking. Cost effective. Environmentally friendly. LEDs are a slam dunk, right? Assuming you find a style you like, the answer is probably yes. In an interview blogger Cori Magee conducted last year with Edmund Ng and Kenneth Ng of Koncept Lighting, they discussed the role of aesthetics in designing for LEDs. "Both form and function are equally important," explained the Ng brothers. "New materials enable new designs. If we find a good material, we are able to create an exciting design around it."
It's this type of commitment to design, technology and, ultimately, cost that leads us to believe the future looks bright for LEDs.
