With the holidays around the corner, Euro Style Lighting was recently wondering: Can a "cool modern" space also be "warm and inviting" during the holidays?
We posed the question to a few of our favorite bloggers and tastemakers and got an unequivocal yes, along with some great tips on how to dress your home for the holidays. Here's what Justina Blakeney (JustinaBlakeney.com), Joanna Hawley (jojotastic) and our own Cori Magee (pictured left to right below) had to say:
Can the holidays and modern décor co-exist?
Justina Blakeney: Absolutely! For modern holiday decor focus on metallics--modern and festive, done and done!
Joanna Hawley: Absolutely! I love combining more traditional winter whites with pops of color. My favorite palette right now includes shades of ivory and white, hot pink, hunter green, and burgundy. The pink really twists it and makes it modern.
Cori Magee: Yes! It’s all in the color palette that you decide to style your home with. Rather than red and green, try gold and black or silver and white.
What are your seasonal decorating and entertaining tricks?
JB: Bringing in fragrant and festive natural elements into the home, from pine to holly.
JH: As an apartment dweller, I like to decorate my front door to bring some holiday cheer to my neighbors. I always hang a hand-made wreath! Also, my windows face the front of the building, so I take it upon myself to make sure the building puts its best foot forward by stringing lights in the windows.
CM: I always include silver décor, both throughout my home and as centerpieces at the dining table. It’s adds sophistication to any holiday gathering.
How can modern style be simultaneously warm and inviting and cool and clean?
JB: It's the people in a home that add the love between them that truly make a home warm. Also, I think that rugs (and textiles in general) really warm up spaces. If you can walk around barefoot and still be cozy, you can have the most modern of spaces and it will still be warm and inviting as well.
JH: Texture is my favorite way to warm up modern style. Think shaggy white fur, icy grey sweater knits, even braided rugs!
CM: Including live greenery makes any home more inviting. Seasonal greenery, like live garland, draped over the mantel will add warmth to your holiday décor.
Whether it's the brilliance of gold finish lighting and decor, or a selection of gifts for the modern home, following the festive decorating tips above can help create a splendid home for the holidays.

Everyone wants a space that reflects them and who they are as an individual. We also want to be unique and one of a kind. Not reflecting a showroom but rather a beautiful space full of personality and style. A fun solution to create such a space in a modern home is painted flooring. Whether it’s a pattern or a solid color, painted floors add a fun, unexpected surprise to your space.
Above we see small triangle patterns scattered on a white floor. I love the variety of black and gold triangles. And I love that they are randomly placed. It’s a look that is neutral enough to go with any accent color.

This wide black stripe is a small detail that creates a big statement. They started with a dark gray concrete and simply painted the stripe. Who needs a rug when you already have a nice design on the floor?!

This look makes a huge impact in this room. This black and white pattern effortlessly fills the entire space and looks amazing! The stylishly modern furniture and delicate accessories compliment the pattern.

For a neutral look, try painting your hardwood floors in a nice soft white. It will immediately lighten up your space and make all of your furniture and accessories pop. The painted floors trend can be translated any way that you please!

The web is such a great place to seek inspiration for dining room lighting. If you're in need of some creative direction, there are endless resources to turn to online that just might spark your design direction. When I start on a room I go hunting for inspiration on-line and then head to my print magazines.
Today I wanted to showcase three beautiful examples of dining room lighting that I've been loving lately. Each have beautiful lighting above the tables that you can incorporate into any home. I've pulled similar light fixtures so you can "get the look" of these inspiring rooms.
Hopefully this will provide you with a starting point (or finishing touch ideas) for your very own home.

Whether it's architecture or interiors, we're not alone in our love for the boldness of black. This risky, bold color can be found everywhere nowadays. The perfect partner for this hue is gold!
Keep in mind, gold doesn't have to mean a metallic material.... Take a look at the image above, even the glow from modern pendant lighting and the wood furniture provides a gold element to the space. It softens the boldness of the black architecture.

Like the architecture above, this bold room is dramatic and chic. The gold, found in the lamp and the wood tones, soften it up a bit and make I the perfect space for rest.
Here's some ideas for incorporating this dark color into your modern home.
1. Bronze Gold Art Glass 11-Inch-H Rectangle Wall Sconce 2. Vela Gold 40 1/4-Inch-W Sunburst Wall Mirror 3. Contemporary Black Metal Possini Euro Dome Pendant Light 4.
