    Modern Architecture

In case you didn't know this about us, in addition to modern architecture, we love bold colors! This awesomely minimal architecture features both so naturally we're on board.

This seems like the ultimate weekend getaway, in the middle of nowhere, yet still design conscious.

This hideaway home doesn't need much, just a little modern outdoor lighting, minimal interiors, lots of books and empty journals. Don't forget the french press and bagels.

    Red Architecture

The interior is beautifully simple. You wouldn't want to clutter such a small space. The all-white color palette also helps the small space feel clean and wide-open.

Keep any interior simple with white lamp shades, simple seating and large windows for natural light.

What's your dream getaway location? We'd love to hear about your design dreams....

  • Iconic Designer: Deborah Sussman

    Deborah Sussman Designer

Design icon Deborah Sussman passed last week in her home in Los Angeles. A graphic designer who got her start with Charles and Ray Eames in the sixties, Sussman went on to establish her own studio and became one of the foremost practitioners of what she called "graphic architecture," or the integration of graphics, color and type into both interiors and exteriors.

    Colorful Work By Sussman

Her work was vibrant, bold and always on the cutting edge.

Take her most notable work for example, a graphic masterplan for the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles (pictured above), and you'll see a visionary way ahead of her time.

Her chalky palette and post-modern reduction of Romanesque motifs into simple geometric forms was inspiring. But her ability to execute it as a pop-up scheme for the 2-week games - creating 3-D installations out of disposable paper and cardboard and textiles - was pure design genius.

While much of her work was centered in Southern California, a recent exhibition at the WuHo Gallery (funded by a Kickstarter campaign) showed that Sussman left a bright, playful graphic legacy on buildings and in corporate and civic identities across the country.

What's trending in modern lighting always changes. But as today's looks veer ever-closer to pastels and chalks, Sussman's work from 30+ years ago couldn't be more right now. And that is the mark of a true design icon.

  • Beautiful White Architecture In Mexico

    White Architecture

    Image from Elle Decor

This beautifully modern architecture was designed by self-taught Miguel Angle Aragones, who claims he learned so much about light and space from studying late Mexican modernists.

He chooses not to work with colors except white because, "White reflects the sun and the atmosphere, which change through the course of a day."

The interior spaces are accented with views from the gorgeous landscaping. The all-white interiors really allow the greenery to stand out and become part of the design. Although minimal, the modern lighting found throughout the home, helps light the interior when nature no longer can.

Many places throughout this home are indoor/outdoor, allowing for nature to play a large role in the experiences people have there.
