Whether you're a sports aficionado or not, you probably know that the Winter Olympics begins this week. Top athletes will be competing for Gold in Sochi, Russia. Well, we love sports here in the ESL offices but we love home design more.
Which is why we want to show you how to win gold with your home design since, like us, you probably lack the skills to win Olympic gold.
Glitz Filbert Espresso 33-Inch-H Arm Chair / Besa Pogo Collection Gold Pendant
For starters.... Set the mood with gold upholstery on a beautiful modern piece of furniture and then highlight it with a gold pendant, preferably in the shape of an Olympic ring.
Eleganza Starburst Gold Leaf 22-Inch-H Wall Mirror / Regina-Andrew Gilded 49" Golden Sconce
We couldn't help but select this gold pendant that resembles the Olympic flame! And no room should go without a gold starburst mirror in our opinion! Modern mirrors with luxury styling are a great way to bring home the gold...
Zena Gold Leaf 72-Inch-H Arteriors Home Room Screen / Worchester Gold 33 1/2-Inch-H Arteriors Home Console Table
Since we've already included a bold mirror, gold-upholstered chair and a flaming hot wall sconce, let's keep things minimal with the gold furniture. This gold "Olympic ring" screen will add vertical design to the space without being too heavy. The gold-framed console is a great place to add some color on the shelves or just simple gold and white accessories that will compliment the room.
Westoria Brass 7 3/4-Inch-H Bulova Tabletop Clock / Dakota Gold and Black Glass 20-Inch-H End Table
Lastly, you need a distinctive accent table to pair with your gold chair and this gold clock is a beautiful accessory to top off this gold home design.
What do you think?

Designing a home is about recreating a feeling. Today I want to bring home the beach by recreating the calm, beachy feeling--like the kind of feeling that you get when your toes are in the warm sand, you are lying under the shade of gently swaying leaves, your fingers are brushing through the cool, clear sea waters.
To get the look and feeling of the beach in your home bring in objects, art, furniture and lighting that is made from natural materials like a mirror made of driftwood, pendant lights made of shells that sway in the breeze, shades made of seagrass, elements in granite, raffia and cotton. Natural materials give a home an earthy and rustic feel.
By keeping a beachy color palette of natural whites, creams with hints of soft blues and sea greens, the home maintains a clean and cool feeling. The elements of brass, gold and crystal in the mix are like the glimmers in the ocean, the shiny abalone and glistening shells. The juxtaposition of the rustic elements with the shiny elements brings the same balance of relaxation and excitement of the beach into the home.
Add the right greenery (there's nothing like a pony-tail palm to make a space feel beachy-keen) and you're ready to turn even the most urban dwelling into a beach bungalow.
Get the look above:

Kefia: The Houndstooth pattern adds sophistication to this modern architecture. Pair it with colorful outdoor chairs and let the fun begin!
Tokio Stripes: Black and white patterns are a bold, yet classic statement. Modern outdoor furniture in neutral tones helps maintain balance and doesn't compete with this bold pattern.

Sidney based architecture firm Andrew Maynard Architects took this old Victorian home with tall surrounding walls and turned it into a super cool modern home. We approve.
Simple forms, minimal furnishing and mixed materials all work together to create the home's modern look. When your minimal furnishings include cool, modern accent chairs go ahead and consider yourself on-trend.
Cool appliances, simple modern lighting and dark colored furniture make this place stylish for both male and female inhabitants.
