  • Home Improvement: Small Space Style With Wall Covering

    Home Improvement

Personally I am such a fan of using wallpaper whenever the home improvement opportunity presents itself. There’s nothing that makes a larger impact in a small space than bold wallpaper.

My favorite space to go crazy with paper would be a powder room, or half bath. Due to its smaller size it shouldn't be too intimidating to be brave with patterns and color, plus you won’t have to make quite as large of an investment as some wallpaper can be on the rather expensive side.

    Wall Covering

And for those finishing touches use a pretty wall mirror, such as the Uttermost Migiana and hang a pair of sconces or a metallic pendant light, such as the Brio Gold Foil Pendant or the Hudson Valley Wall Sconces.

    Stylish Wall Covering

If you’re still hesitant to pull the wallpaper trigger there are plenty of gorgeous temporary papers which are especially fantastic if you’re renting a space.

  • Belly Up to Barstools

Sleek and chic or warm and well-worn, today's most talked-about bars combine comfort and class. And the modern barstool still bears that age-old burden of propping patrons up, no matter how long they've been imbibing.

Horizontal lines at the Dim Sum Bar in Quito (pictured above), are echoed by the counter stools beneath the bar.

Hangar 41 in Antwerp (pictured above) is modeled after a classic Euro cafe, with just enough mod accents to cater to the design-savvy Dutchman. We love backless barstools for casual entertaining - these designs can be simply tucked away neatly under the bar when not in use.

A table at Singapore's much coveted Waku Ghin, pictured above, can be hard to come by...but a masterfully crafted cocktail can be found quite easily in the bar.

Bars need not be for drinks only. Also in Singapore, breakfast joint Hatched (pictured above) uses natural materials to give the space a fresh, early morning feel.

To get the "hot spot" look at home, search first for designs that are versatile, comfortable and durable:

For the home bar, breakfast nook or kitchen, 24 to 26 inch counter height swivel stools are generally a good option. The rustic look of worn finishes and warm leathers ages well and looks particularly good in an industrial-style setting. Lastly, grab a friend or family member and a drink or snack--good company is the best accompaniment to good design.

  • Modern lighting fixtures for kids rooms

    Modern Lighting Fixtures

Kids rooms are the perfect place to experiment with fun, modern lighting options. You can choose fixtures that are a bit more playful and less serious.

The best ones to choose from are those that won’t get in the way of children playing. Consider a large pendant light or a floor lamp that is high enough that it can’t be grabbed by little hands. Stylish wall scones are also a great option.

    2. Ceiling lamps, like this Possini Euro White Flower Ceiling Light, are a great options for doing the job in a modern setting.
    3. Ceiling fans are great for white noise and ambient lighting. Try this Casa Vieja White Ceiling Fan for seamless style.
    4. This cute Jonathan Adler Right Giraffe Wall Sconce wall fixture is playful and elegant at the same time.
    5. This Jonathan Adler Capri Yellow Gourd Table Lamp add some playful color.
