    Wood Burning Fireplace

The smell of wood burning fireplaces is filling the air in neighborhoods across the country. It's such a comforting smell that instantly makes any space feel cozy. Even these minimal modern interiors feel cozy when there's a wood burning fireplace involved.

    Brick Fireplace

Modern design elements mix with the rustic brick wood burning fireplace(above) to bring an eclectic feel into the space. Low modern seating creates a very intimate feel with the low fireplace.

Wood logs arranged perfectly under your fireplace is not only practical, but makes such an artistic statement for design lovers. As you know, we would recommend dropping down a gorgeous organic modern chandelier to fully complete this space!

  • Gothic Architecture: Tim Burton Inspired Bridal Shoot

    Gothic Architecture

Happy Halloween! We don't usually post about weddings, but when there's cool Gothic architecture involved we do. It might not be in line with our typicaly modern architecture obsession, but we appreciate all great design. This bridal shoot is the stunning work of photographer Shelly Mantovani, inspired by the Tim Burton film ‘Dark shadows’. I'm sure there are many people out there getting married on today, and if you're not you can always dress up and pretend you are!

Take a look at some gorgeous inspiration for a dark wedding or just some really cool Gothic architecture...

    Gothic Windows

This red is purely radiant!  Pops of red in your wardrobe or home decor will always bring energy to your style!

    Pink Dress

The use of pinks and soft pastels creates such a romantic energy in a dark way. Speaking of dark, the one thing this space is missing is some black pendants or chandeliers, right?!

    Be safe this Halloween!

  • Modern Penthouses: NYC's Top Properties

    Modern Penthouses in New York

In the big apple, the hottest residential properties are the ones that literally sit on top of it all. Whether you're writing a down-payment check or just salivating over the thought of it like me, there's no denying the allure of New York's building-topping, showstopping spaces (such as Jill Stuart's edgy apartment above).

There's hardly a bad view from the 52nd floor of the Bloomberg Tower either:

    Central Park Penthouse Views

What could be more appropriate than Warhol's soup cans in the kitchen? Does everyone in New York have an art collection to die-for (or to at least retire on)?

    Modern Penthouse Kitchens

And who says there's no view of the sky, stars or trees in the city?

Generous use of wood extends the natural theme of this lower Manhattan penthouse apartment to the indoors. Distinctive pendant lights and modern recessed lighting maintain the contemporary feel.

At a decent altitude, light and space are easy to come by in the city, as in this spacious Chelsea penthouse by designer Marie Burgos.

Burgos has also applied her magic to a loft in Tribeca. I love the modern pendant lights that hangs overhead and sought out the design at Euro Style Lighting. This style works for kitchen islands as well as dining room tables.

Sure, a penthouse apartment in New York will cost a bundle. Infusing your home with the aesthetic however (minus the view) is much less cost-prohibitive.

  • Room With a View: Modern San Francisco Home

    San Francisco Home

This modern San Francisco home has a newly added room with a view, making you wonder what the street possibly did without this modern addition.... And that's saying a lot, considering it's a really pretty San Francisco street. The modern structure fits in well with the neighboring homes, but the bold black hue makes it really stand out.

    Metal Bridge

The metal bridge stretches and connects the newly added room to a patio. The vairous shades of gray between the bridge, patio and structure work perfectly together and are accented beautifully with the landscaping. Modern outdoor furniture, maybe even with some pops of color, would be the perfect addition to this space.

    Folding Screen

A perforated screen folds down over the south-facing facade of the newly added room to prevent overheating during the day. When the screen is raised, the home has amazing views of the San Francisco bay. The inside of this added room is white, clean and modern. Simple pendant lighting is the perfect choice when you want to keep a room minimal.

    Modern Dining Room

Cyber Chatreuse Lucite Wall Clock, Pele White Glass Tech Lighting Mini Pendant, Zuo Taffy Natural and Chrome Dining Chairs, Zuo Novel Stainless Steel Dining Table

Here's a little round up to help you achieve a chic, modern dining room like the one in this cool San Francisco home. Although we may not be able to live in a home this cool and with that view, we can still find elements of inspiration that we can apply to our own home.

The Wythe Hotel located in the heart of Brooklyn, has been receiving many praises since opening in May of this year. This 8 story, 72-room urban hotel blends into the historic core of Brooklyn and it's prime waterfront location. The building itself, a former textile factory, has many impressive features and loads of character that have been beautifully preserved. Making this gem of a hotel shine brightly, but not too bright for it's surroundings.
