  • Olioboard Blog Hop: Fashion + Decor

Today we are switching up our normal posting routine and doing something fun... We're participating in the Olioboard Blog Hop! We are super excited to be included in this fun event. We were asked to create a board on Olioboard demonstrating a connection between fashion and decor.

We love modern and who doesn't love chic?... We decided to go with this stylish Kate Moss 'fit for our inspiration image, since bold black paired with metallic is so on-trend. We had fun translating this style into a room by pulling together modern, yet sophisticated pieces. We were able to create a dining room that would host the most amazing dinner parties!

Olioboard is really fun, you can select products from several different brands to include on your board. And in case you're wondering, yes that is our gorgeous chandelier and stylish sconces in the background. Not sure if particular furniture or accessories will look together in one space? Olioboard is great for that! But you can also work with a budget and shop directly from the site...  So get on over there and try it, trust us it's fun!

Make sure to check out all the other great bloggers participating in this event:

    Erin from Apartment 34

Julia participating on behalf of MaterialGirls

    Selma from Selma Hammer

Franki from Life in a Venti Cup

Jane from Embrace Your Inner Snob

Lesley participating on behalf of Lamps Plus

    Marilyn from Design Magnifique

    Lynda from NYCLQ

Robin from Pocket Full of Color

*After your blog hopping, check out our Euro Style Lighting contest, which is currently happening on Olioboard... We even got Chris Gardner from Curbly to be our guest judge!

  • Modern Porcelain Tiles: A Perfect Combination of Innovation and Tradition

    Modern Porcelain Tiles

Many amazing things are happening in the world of architectural materials and more specifically modern porcelain tiles. The Pinocchi Collection from 14OraItaliana has the look and feel of plywood, but the durability and sustainability of a porcelain tile! Since plywood has become a more popular material in architecture and commercial design (as seen in my last post)  this is a very cool addition to the collection.

You can use this material in unexpected places like on shower walls and because of it's texture it's the perfect material to use poolside! It allows you to think outside the (plywood) box in a huge way!

    Architectural Materials

The decorative Tartan pattern (above) is layered on top of the wood pattern to create a very tailored effect. This adds a playful, but refined edge and is the perfect combination of innovation and tradition. The Tartan is a perfect backdrop for any modern sofa with its clean lines. And I could easily see this in a adorable cafe with modern tables and modern dining chairs.

    Marine Plywood Flooring

This collection must be called Pinocchi because you would swear they are lying to you. There is no way that a porcelain tile could look this real, but believe us, it's really fake! The Pino Collection (above) works great as an outdoor flooring and pairs perfectly with modern outdoor furniture.

    Modern Porcelain Tile Walls

Bold, modern home decor really pops against the natural color of the plywood tiles. The texture of the wood tile contrasts beautifully with smooth lacquer finish and organic elements above.

Be on the lookout for some really innovative designs in architectural tiles and materials. The largest tile show in the world, Cersaie just ended a couple weeks ago and we are extremely excited to see all the wonderful materials about to be introduced into our world!

  • Luxury Suites at Yankee Stadium

    Yankee Stadium Great Hall

Love the Yankees or hate the Yankees, they're always in the playoffs come October. And with that, it seems appropriate to pay tribute to the finer points of design with the luxury suites at the new Yankee Stadium.

In New York, America's past-time is all about luxury. With 56 luxury suites (compared to 19 in the old stadium), there's no shortage of big-ticket seating or big-ticket spenders. The Legends Suite (below) sets a muted mood in Yankees blue and white. Under cabinet lights and glowing frosted glass will help set the mood for any luxe interior.

The Audi Yankees Club is built for fans who want to keep their eyes fixed upon the field. European-inspired styling is sparse and functional with the right touch of class. In this case, turf centerpieces by floral designer Rachel Cho.

Everywhere you turn, there seems to be another suite. The Yankees Club suite (below) keeps things thematic yet elegant. Hi-definition screens play the game throughout the stadium, in case anyone forgets why they're at the ball park.

Top shelf amenities aren't just for the paying customers. With luxe tile finishes and frosted glass, the locker rooms are in step with the seven and eight figure salaries of the players who use them. Adding some bath bar lights in your home bathroom might help you feel almost as luxe.

    New Yankees Stadium Locker Rooms

At $1.5 billion, the new Yankee Stadium which opened in 2009, is a model of modern commercial design and the second most expensive stadium ever built in the world. However, with high-priced luxury boxes and VIP lounges becoming the new standard among stadiums and arenas, it might not be long before we see price-tags like this on a regular basis around the company.

    Urban Hotel Desgn

The Wythe Hotel located in the heart of Brooklyn, has been receiving many praises since opening in May of this year. This 8 story, 72-room urban hotel blends into the historic core of Brooklyn and it's prime waterfront location. The building itself, a former textile factory, has many impressive features and loads of character that have been beautifully preserved. Making this gem of a hotel shine brightly, but not too bright for it's surroundings.

    Industrial Interior

The interiors stay true to the surroundings, mixing a modern edge into the decor and providing an impressive design. It is also a place you walk into and immediately feel like you're at home. The wood ceiling, exposed brick, and floor to ceiling grid windows  are prominent elements throughout the hotel.

    Industrial Wall Sconce

A gorgeous mix of grays, greens, blacks, and natural elements blend to create a warm and inviting space. Industrial wall sconces will always make a statement against exposed brick walls.

Custom wallpaper makes a bold statement in the guestrooms allowing the black accents to really pop against.

    Contemporary Decor

A minimal black desk lamp can stand alone when paired with a contrasting material, such as cool reclaimed wood. The modern black leather chairs look as cozy as could be and are placed in a perfect spot to sip coffee and enjoy the views these beautiful windows provide.

  • Interior Architecture: Modern Warehouse Conversion

    Modern Warehouse Conversion

The pure attention to the details of interior architecture is why the work of Fearon Hay Architects captivates me.This minimal design of this 1960's fabric warehouse conversion in Auckland, New Zealand is functional and straight-forward. My eyes gloss over at the sight of the detailing of those rosewood framed doors.

    Interior Architecture

The gorgeous fabrics rolls spread out over the space make a bold statement while the architecture accentuates the beauty of each piece without trying to fight it.

    Pivot Doors

The form of each of the chairs and table (above) adds a sculptural element within the space. Raw, concrete floors, white walls, and modern accent chairs will help you achieve the modern and industrial look like the space above.

    Modern Lounge Chair

    Abstract Artwork

Oxblood leather chairs and soft artwork cozy up the conference room. A modern office chair is not only practical and comfortable, but is a great way to bring modern elements into your office space.

    Glass Doors

Of course you know we love lighting, and if I could add just one element to this design it would be a simple modern pendant light.

    Mason Jar Pendant

LBL MASON BROWN AND SATIN NICKEL PENDANT LIGHT

    Modern Door Detail

The rosewood framed doors are able to separate the room physically, but not visually. Now this is what design is all about; the thin rosewood frame, sleek handle, and the most beautiful part of it all, the brass detailing. It's these elements that separate the men from the boys when it comes to good design.
