Today we are switching up our normal posting routine and doing something fun... We're participating in the Olioboard Blog Hop! We are super excited to be included in this fun event. We were asked to create a board on Olioboard demonstrating a connection between fashion and decor.
We love modern and who doesn't love chic?... We decided to go with this stylish Kate Moss 'fit for our inspiration image, since bold black paired with metallic is so on-trend. We had fun translating this style into a room by pulling together modern, yet sophisticated pieces. We were able to create a dining room that would host the most amazing dinner parties!
Olioboard is really fun, you can select products from several different brands to include on your board. And in case you're wondering, yes that is our gorgeous chandelier and stylish sconces in the background. Not sure if particular furniture or accessories will look together in one space? Olioboard is great for that! But you can also work with a budget and shop directly from the site... So get on over there and try it, trust us it's fun!
Make sure to check out all the other great bloggers participating in this event:
Erin from Apartment 34
Julia participating on behalf of MaterialGirls
Selma from Selma Hammer
Franki from Life in a Venti Cup
Jane from Embrace Your Inner Snob
Lesley participating on behalf of Lamps Plus
Marilyn from Design Magnifique
Lynda from NYCLQ
Robin from Pocket Full of Color
*After your blog hopping, check out our Euro Style Lighting contest, which is currently happening on Olioboard... We even got Chris Gardner from Curbly to be our guest judge!

Many amazing things are happening in the world of architectural materials and more specifically modern porcelain tiles. The Pinocchi Collection from 14OraItaliana has the look and feel of plywood, but the durability and sustainability of a porcelain tile! Since plywood has become a more popular material in architecture and commercial design (as seen in my last post) this is a very cool addition to the collection.
You can use this material in unexpected places like on shower walls and because of it's texture it's the perfect material to use poolside! It allows you to think outside the (plywood) box in a huge way!
The decorative Tartan pattern (above) is layered on top of the wood pattern to create a very tailored effect. This adds a playful, but refined edge and is the perfect combination of innovation and tradition. The Tartan is a perfect backdrop for any modern sofa with its clean lines. And I could easily see this in a adorable cafe with modern tables and modern dining chairs.

This collection must be called Pinocchi because you would swear they are lying to you. There is no way that a porcelain tile could look this real, but believe us, it's really fake! The Pino Collection (above) works great as an outdoor flooring and pairs perfectly with modern outdoor furniture.
Bold, modern home decor really pops against the natural color of the plywood tiles. The texture of the wood tile contrasts beautifully with smooth lacquer finish and organic elements above.
Be on the lookout for some really innovative designs in architectural tiles and materials. The largest tile show in the world, Cersaie just ended a couple weeks ago and we are extremely excited to see all the wonderful materials about to be introduced into our world!
The smell of wood burning fireplaces is filling the air in neighborhoods across the country. It's such a comforting smell that instantly makes any space feel cozy. Even these minimal modern interiors feel cozy when there's a wood burning fireplace involved.
Modern design elements mix with the rustic brick wood burning fireplace(above) to bring an eclectic feel into the space. Low modern seating creates a very intimate feel with the low fireplace.

The gorgeous windows bring the outdoors in, as if you're perched up in a beautiful treehouse. Modern accent chairs that can be easily moved are perfect in this space because it allows you to adjust to the heat with ease!
Zuo Draper Black Lounge Chair
White walls and concrete floors are at one with nature in this organic modern setting. Wood logs arranged perfectly under your fireplace is not only practical, but makes such an artistic statement for design lovers. As you know, we would recommend dropping down a gorgeous organic modern chandelier to fully complete this space!
Hope you're enjoying the smells of the season and staying cozy!

Higher power gives way to high end design in these chic church renovations. So how do you turn a house of worship into a modern home? Take a look at the examples below for divine inspiration, and then get yourself a realtor who's in thick with the cloistered crowd.
If cleanliness is next to godliness, the minimalist decor of this Brisbane, Australia, converted church (pictured above and below) will make a believer out of most anyone.
The bathroom below all but erases the heritage of the space by mixing black and white finishes with a dramatic chandelier. Now that's a case of intelligent design.
You can achieve a similiar lighting look with the Jonathan Adler Meurice Brass Robert Abbey Chandelier.
In this Utrecht church renovation (below), original stained glass windows are the eyes to the soul inside.
Sometimes, simply hanging a few clean and modern pendant lights and a mid-century inspired floor lamp can dramatically transform a church space.
The Chrome Arch Black Marble Base Floor Lamp featured below is a great example of simple modern styling that would work well in any space.
Open floor plans. Exposed ceilings. Massive windows. Wood floors. Long before modern design ever existed, churches unwittingly encompassed many of its philosophical fundamentals. Now it is up to chic church renovations to carry on the legacy.

Halloween pumpkin carving is usually about the orange and black, but this year let's make Halloween a little more stylish... and modern of course. Let's make it all about black, white and some bits of gold!
If you don't want to deal with the ooo-ey goo-ey mess of pumpkin guts, painting pumpkins is a great way to go! Create modern Halloween decor by styling your house with a monochromatic collection of either black or white pumpkins. Clusters of black and white modern outdoor chairs would be great on the front porch, making the cool pumpkins company!

Or, let the artist in you shine and go with gorgeous modern patterns, such as having black paint drip over a white pumpkion or the modern herringbone pattern. If you're looking for some inspiration for patterns, take a look at these images of modern gothic architecture (below).
The shapes and patterns found in Modern Gothic Architecture are sure to inspire some stylish Halloween decor! The gorgeous shapes found in the ceiling in the first image are breathtaking.
The silhouette of the Doimo in Milan (image 2) is quite eery against the dark cloudy sky. The negative and positive space in this photo is more than stunning and would be a striking work of art on your handpainted pumpkin! Inspiration from stained glass (image 3) is another great form of inspiration! This stained glass in Wim Delvoye's window is actually made out of x-rays. little creepy right?
Hope you're enjoying this fun holiday season! Make sure to make it stylish... and modern!
