We love geometric art and of course modern architecture so when the two of them are combined you get stunning results.Technology has allowed architects to create work way beyond the standard box that many associate modern architecture with. The BiCentennial Civic Center (above) is constructed from faceted prisms made out of concrete. This creates a very unique play of light and shadow.
We were just talking about light and shadow, right? Now add color! Not only does architecture look like modern art, but it creates art on these white walls.
A crystal geometric ceiling light will create amazing play on light and shadow in your interior. Its like an expolosion in the sky!
Inertia Crystal 24" Wide Corbett Flushmount Ceiling Light
The bold black and white triangular facade wrapped around this dome structure creates a strong and dynamic backdrop to this urban Tokyo setting.
Modern pendant lighting can create this same dynamic feeling in your setting. This black and white geometric pendant (below) would be perfect!
Tetra Tiffany Style 7-Inch-W Pendant Chandelier
Traditional Japanese wood construction has morphed with modern day technology to create a stunning facade that looks more like a sculpture than a place to conduct business.
If you aren't lucky enough to live or work in one of these geometric architectural works of modern art then you can always bring geometric home decor into your modern interior.

At the moment, I’m obsessed with desk lighting – it’s probably because I’m one of those designers that would rather have good table lighting on than an overhead light during the day. Let’s say goodbye fluorescent lighting, shall we? There are tons of desk lamp styles to choose from – industrial, modern, contemporary, traditional, the list could go on and on. I’ve chosen two of my current favorite desk lamps to highlight in this “get the look” feature.
There are a lot of things to love about this workspace (above) – my favorite is a pharmacy-style desk lamp. I’ve got to say that if you want to get this look, the Bruno desk lamp (below) is an honorable take on a 1933 design manufactured by the Kaiser Company in Germany.
Robert Abbey Bruno Bronze Pharmacy Desk Lamp
The rich bronze finish makes it a stand out piece. Having this light on your desk is bound to get your creativity going.
Want a more modern and iconic desk lamp? The Draper is perfect for you. This mid-century retro and classic style (above) is one lamp that I find a lot of clients and friends looking for – it’s luckily sold right here.
Draper Black Mid-Century Desk Lamp
What I love even more about this version (above) is that it has two lights, which can illuminate your desk with either one or both lights one. It’s a must have if this is your style.
What kind of desk lamp are you coveting for your workspace?

If you've been to the Downtown Art Walk in Los Angeles then you most likely have seen Robert Vargas on these streets painting live portraits. And you've most likely been mesmerized by not only how amazing these portraits are, but the how captivating his live performances are. As the crowd gathers around Vargas selects his models from the audience and creates gorgeous portraits in about 5 minutes. The spectators stand around, jaws dropped, hoping they are the next to be selected to have their portraits drawn by the oh so talented Robert Vargas.
There are amazing things happening down there and this Boyle Heights native and his Pratt Institute education are really bringing out the true characters.
The emotion that is captured in not only the performance, but in each piece is something that is truly represents the vibe of downtown LA.
The crowds gather around while Vargas goes to town! Who wouldn't want to be one of the lucky ones selected to have their portrait painted?! Hanging his work in your modern interior would bring so much character to your space. His work would be a great compliment to any of the industrial downtown lofts filled with modern furniture.
Vargas was commissioned to do a live mural of The Far East Movement last year at the art walk. Once the mural was painted, Far East Movement started their performance while the mural dried in the background. The finished painting symbolizes "staying present and capturing the moment," states Vargas. He continues, "Fans of FM and myself will get to experience both Music and Art like never before at the Art Walk."
You can not only find Vargas's work down at the LA Art Walk but you can also find his murals on buildings across East LA.
Artwork is the perfect way to bring character into your own home, and is even better when your modern home decor is created by an emerging artist who is able to capture all your emotion and spirit in one single piece. A trip to LA Artwalk to see Vargas is in order for us all.
