At the moment, I’m obsessed with desk lighting – it’s probably because I’m one of those designers that would rather have good table lighting on than an overhead light during the day. Let’s say goodbye fluorescent lighting, shall we? There are tons of desk lamp styles to choose from – industrial, modern, contemporary, traditional, the list could go on and on. I’ve chosen two of my current favorite desk lamps to highlight in this “get the look” feature.
There are a lot of things to love about this workspace (above) – my favorite is a pharmacy-style desk lamp. I’ve got to say that if you want to get this look, the Bruno desk lamp (below) is an honorable take on a 1933 design manufactured by the Kaiser Company in Germany.
Robert Abbey Bruno Bronze Pharmacy Desk Lamp
The rich bronze finish makes it a stand out piece. Having this light on your desk is bound to get your creativity going.
Want a more modern and iconic desk lamp? The Draper is perfect for you. This mid-century retro and classic style (above) is one lamp that I find a lot of clients and friends looking for – it’s luckily sold right here.
Draper Black Mid-Century Desk Lamp
What I love even more about this version (above) is that it has two lights, which can illuminate your desk with either one or both lights one. It’s a must have if this is your style.
What kind of desk lamp are you coveting for your workspace?

+Pantone announced their color of the year this week. Emerald Green will be the color focus of the year throughout the design industry so keep your eye out!
+Legendary architect, Oscar Niemeyer passed away at the age of 104 on Wednesday. He's known for designing beautiful architecture around the world and his brilliance will be missed.
+Speaking of great architecture, Kate Arends from Wit + Delight has a great post on Louis Kahn and is famous Norman Fisher House.
+They are the coolest city lights you'll ever see... L.A. Times Photography posted satelite images of earth at night on-line and they are spectacular. Frame-worthy for sure!
+If you're a new designer starting out or you just have some questions about working in the design industry, graphic designer Shauna Haider has a great advice column on her blog Nubby Twiglet.
We love geometric art and of course modern architecture so when the two of them are combined you get stunning results.Technology has allowed architects to create work way beyond the standard box that many associate modern architecture with. The BiCentennial Civic Center (above) is constructed from faceted prisms made out of concrete. This creates a very unique play of light and shadow.
We were just talking about light and shadow, right? Now add color! Not only does architecture look like modern art, but it creates art on these white walls.
A crystal geometric ceiling light will create amazing play on light and shadow in your interior. Its like an expolosion in the sky!

The bold black and white triangular facade wrapped around this dome structure creates a strong and dynamic backdrop to this urban Tokyo setting.
Modern pendant lighting can create this same dynamic feeling in your setting. This black and white geometric pendant (below) would be perfect!
Tetra Tiffany Style 7-Inch-W Pendant Chandelier
Traditional Japanese wood construction has morphed with modern day technology to create a stunning facade that looks more like a sculpture than a place to conduct business.
If you aren't lucky enough to live or work in one of these geometric architectural works of modern art then you can always bring geometric home decor into your modern interior.

Many of you are either planning your holiday getaways to a beautiful Winter wonderland or maybe you're living in it already. Wouldn't it be nice to be walking through a beautiful snow-covered landscape and stumble upon modern architecture to keep you warm and cozy?
This modern cabin (above) would be exceptionally great because you could just lounge around and watch it snow for hours with those big window walls. Curl up in a modern chair, sip on some cocoa, and read your favorite book...that's what we would do!

A modern sofa with soft fabric and layers of cushions seems like the perfect addition to any modern cabin. Adding textures in a soft neutral palette with gray, white, and tan will give your home a serene feeling, keeping it warm and cozy.
A rustic modern cabin on a lake would also be a great vacation in a winter wonderland!
How beautiful would it be to walk into a rustic cabin and discover a bright modern interior filled with all-white furnishings? The gorgeous snow covered forest wallpaper makes you feel like you're still in the snowy outdoors, but you would be warm and curled up on a modern white sofa. The only thing that's missing is a stylish floor lamp so you can read and fill yourself with knowledge on your relaxing getaway.

If you didn't think a trip into the snow was right for you this holiday season, maybe we changed your mind... Happy Holidays to you all!
With winter solstice right around the corner (it falls on December 21st this year), we have short and dark days ahead. Not only is lighting essential but also makes a big impact on a home's overall look and feel. For those of you that want to continue to have light-filled rooms but are wondering how you will add more lighting, don’t fear you can illuminate your space and amplify your style with these favorites I have to share.
Most homes don’t have a lot of natural light. If that’s true for your home, then adding floor lamps is a great option for a simple and easy fix. Floor lamps also provide a cozy corner with the perfect light for reading.
Ceiling fixtures contribute ambient lighting in a fashionable way that can highlight any design aesthetic. Whether you simply want to add a new look to your dining room, add functional lighting to your kitchen, or add a stunning fixture to your bedroom (similar to the above photo), a ceiling light may be the answer when long winter months drag on.
Here are a few of my favorite lighting options that you could add to your home:
Top Left: Robert Abbey Jonathan Adler Meurice Nickel Chandelier – Place this in your living room, nook or bedroom and your room will have no problem being fully lit from all of these lovely, tiny globe bulbs.
Top Right: Lafitte Clear Glass 10-Inch-W Jamie Young Pendant Chandelier - Mouth-blown clear glass shade has unique texture and style.
Middle: Jonathan Adler Havana Polished Nickel White Shade Floor Lamp – If you need a little extra light on a gloomy day add a floor lamp in the corner. This Jonathan Adler lamp features three cocktail shaker-like lights on adjustable arms and has multiple lighting settings.
Bottom Left: Double Gourd Slate Grey Ceramic 27-Inch-H Table Lamp – Put a pair together and place them on either side of a couch in your living rom or on your bedside table. The acrylic base gives this gourd lamp a more modern feel.
Bottom Right: Delta Lily Robert Abbey Modern Table Lamp - Would be perfect on a desk or entry table for a clean and contemporary home.
