Your kitchen always ends up being the gathering place in a home – whether you’re hosting a party or just hanging out with the family. Because of this, it’s time for everyone to spice up your modern kitchen island with some chic barstools. Some people go for comfort; for others, they only care about looks.
Then you have to think about the design of your modern barstools... It doesn’t matter what style your home is – industrial, mid-century modern, traditional or minimalist – there is something for everyone’s kitchen island.
Zuo Marius Red Bar Chair
Your kitchen will look all spruced up for a small price. Think of the modern barstool as kitchen jewelry. Today, I’ve pulled together three different looks for you, each one I love for a different reason.
I’m partial to the industrial look (above). This bright version is the perfect pop of color to bring into your kitchen.
Orson Black Leatherette Metal Modern Bar Stools
This Orson bar stool has a back. If you treat the counter as a place for chatting while cooking, a high-back stool will be more comfortable.
Anime Modern Transparent Acrylic Stackable Zuo Bar Stool
If you want your barstools to kind of disappear from a distance, acrylic is definitely the way to go.
I hope this helped and you find your ideal barstool!

Ms. Feminine & Polished likes her rooms well-lit with a little sparkle, and this Hammered Metal Cylinder Silver Leaf Table Lamp fits the bill perfectly. Its shimmering tapered base reflects all of the lovely light the lamp casts.

Frank Gehry is onto something again as he tries to bring a major museum into the City of Santa Monica. His proposed project is a mixed use structure with a 125-room hotel, condos, a museum, shopping, restaurants and of course parking. Santa Monica could use a little bit of excitement and who better to bring it than the Santa Monica native Frank Gehry? I can just see the modern furniture and stylish modern lighting filling the spaces and the streets lined with modern architecture and sculptures.
One of the amazing things that Frank Gehry does is mix architecture, art and culture into one. His projects are a destination waiting to be explored. The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi (above) is the largest museum in a series of cultural institutions planned as part of the Saadiyat Island Cultural District. It will serve the world as a destination for the advancement of knowledge and the understanding of culture through the arts.
The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi (above) is scheduled for completion in 2017 and it will no doubt be a pleasure for the now 84 old Frank Gehry to see such a remarkable project completed.
Gehry has designed more than fifty commercial buildings and residences throughout the world, including the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, the Disney Concert Hall (above), the Los Angeles Children’s Museum, the California Aerospace Museum and the Yale Psychiatric Institute just to name a few.
He also renovated the famous Hollywood Bowl by adding fiberglass spheres which hang from the bowl’s shell to upgrade the sound of the acoustics.
And did you know he has also designed a series of modern pendant lighting called "Cloud" (above). The name evokes the poetic nature of these creations, which should convey the feeling of freedom and eccentricity.
Who doesn't want to add a feeling of freedom and eccentricity into their home? One of the best ways to do that is through modern lighting, whether it be a ceiling light or a pendant! Take a look at some of our suggestions below.

Now we can all bring a little bit of Frank Gehry into our homes or office.

I adore this modern design! The gray with the various shades of pinks and patterns is kind of fantastic. I especially love the mix of styles, very eclectic and chic!
I love the mid-century style of this chair (below), and unlike a lot of mid-century furniture, it actually looks comfortable! A pink lamp would be perfect along side it. I think any one of these would look amazing in any given space with this chair. The shade of the pink lamps goes just perfectly with the gray chair and they are both solid colors so they are easy to dress up even more.
1. Rose Apothocary Table Lamp 2. Pink Robert Abbey Lamp 3. Roso Ovo Table Lamp
The problem is, which to choose? The first lamp has a really interesting shape but is simple enough I think it would be just enough to add character to the room.
The second lamp is right up my alley. The faceted look is so trendy and cool and I love it! But again, it is simple enough I think it would work really well with the chair and the room they would both go in.
Now for option number three. This lamp is pretty and simple. I think it could look fantastic with some decorative bowls or vintage items around it. And the chair, you could dress it up with a throw or a pillow or two.
The options are endless! But the real question is, which lamp goes best with your style?! All three lamps have a similar color and aesthetic, but the final decision lies with you...

It's that time of year again! Get ready to spend more time in your modern outdoor space, both day and night. There's just a few things you need to consider as you prepare your outdoor space.
The first thing you should do before selecting outdoor lighting, purchasing outdoor furniture or laying down any stones is figure out how you want your outdoor space to function. Will you be entertaining? Do you want to eat out there during the day or night? Maybe you just want to lounge on sunny days?
Keep in mind the style of both your home's architecture as well as the interior design. Selecting furniture and lighting that will compliment your home's style is important for the overall flow of the design.
It's important to include some plant life in your home, but it's especially important to include it in your outdoor living space! Greenery can be used as a barrier as well. In the case of this home below, close quarters required them to come up with a design plan to ensure privacy. They chose tall, narrow trees and it was a brilliant move.
We hope you have fun designing your modern outdoor space and even more fun spending time there!
