My husband and I recently moved to New York City, and we're waiting for our apartment to be ready for move in later in July. The suspense is killing me -- not only because I'm ready to be settled, but the best part is yet to come: the decorating!
In the master bedroom, we're lucky enough that the room is just big enough to fit our prized king size bed. However, there won't be much room on either side for large nightstands, so we're looking at saving space by purchasing some kind of small side table, and using wall mounted lights to provide symmetry and nighttime lighting. Little did I know, there are so many options out there!
Lighting is one of those things that can put a big dent in your budget if you let it. Looking around, I've found some pricey options, and similar looks that ESL sells for a fraction of the price. Which of these high/lows picks do you prefer? The pharmacy lamp is my particular favorite!

Design Spotlight is our regular monthly post covering modern design + lifestyle topics from around the globe. You'll find everything from design icon biographies to modern art, photography and architectural surprises. And of course modern design!
+ We attended Dwell on Design last week, here's our recap of the awesome event.
+ You've got to see this Photoshop prank at a bus stop. It's not mean, but rather extremely creative. Everyone comes away smiling.
+ Cool designs and even cooler parenting via this shop on Etsy.
+ Here's some very cool photography that bends reality... (Fun fact: same designers behind the cool bus stop prank!)
+ For all you avid travelers who love cool design, here's a map where you can scratch off where you've been. It's like a design challenge!
Good design doesn't need to be relegated to indoors and it can most certainly be just for fun! We've rounded up some awesome modern design in outdoor spaces. Whether you're a parent or just a kid at heart, you'll love these.
This 20,500 square meter park is located in Sydney, Australia. Designed with the land rather than against it, this fun space has several surprises and activity points.
These might be the coolest tree houses we've ever seen! The color palette is really fun and modern.
Kids of all ages enjoy this skate park and who wouldn't, it's visually stunning!

With the arrival of Summer everyone is enjoying more days and nights outdoors. As the weather grows warmer, we’ll be spending the majority of our nights outdoors for casual dinners at home, cocktails parties on the deck or summertime soirees surrounded by friends and family.
When designing outdoor spaces don’t forget the detail of outdoor lighting. This can extend your time into the evening hours. You wouldn’t want the party to end because you can’t see the person across the table from you.
I’ve put together a round up of my favorites outdoor lanterns that can work in almost any home.

We've been busy with the Dwell on Design events over this past week. As Brent mentioned in his Friday post, we attended the Westside Home Tours and this past weekend we attended the Eastside Home Tours.
This home (above) was located in La Canada and you wouldn't even know you were in Los Angeles. Beautiful neighborhood with a family feel, and no shortage of good design!
One of the more interesting homes on the tour were the townhome lofts in Atwater. If you thought a family couldn't live in a loft, you'd be wrong. With a child proof gate at each of the three stairways, the different levels were designed with style and function in mind.
Most importantly, two design-savvy parents should never give up their loft living dream!
The Hollywood sign isn't the only great view in Los Angeles, they're all over. This home (above) was located up a windy road in Glendale. The "H" shaped architecture looked over the city and we can only imagine the view improving at nighttime.
If you missed the home tours this year, they have them every year along with the main Dwell on Design even that extends the entire weekend at the Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles so don't miss it next year!
Tomorrow we'll recap the main event so stay tuned!
