Let's just admit it: not all hotels are created equal. Located in rural Czech Republic, the Hotel Miura (designed by Czech firm Labor 13) blends contemporary cosmopolitan sophistication with country surroundings, for a modern hotel design that's stunning in an equally stunning locale.
A palette of charcoal and magenta recurs throughout public and private areas, creating a calm sense of cohesion.
Art from top international and Czech artists punctuates the property, among them: Andy Warhol, David Černý, Herny Moore, Tony Cragge, John Armleder, Luca Pancrazzi, Petr Pastrňák and Damien Hirst (painting pictured below).
Sight lines in the lobby and dining areas expose the odd angles of the structure and afford clear views of the landscape outside.
In particular, I love how contemporary ceiling lights can set a sculptural tone for the entire space. Even a simple stairwell can be appealing with dramatic iron charcoal guardrails and modern sconces.
Mixing the hotel's colors and angular design motifs, it's not hard to invoke the style at home:

We cover quite a few modern designs like the Hotel Miura with stark geometries and minimalist interiors. And we've all heard the knocks: "it's looks great but I'd hate to live in it." So we'd love to know what you think?

Adding color to an already existing space can feel intimidating and overwhelming. It’s a stressful task figuring out which colors go well together and or what colors we actually prefer to look at everyday. Here are a few modern dining spaces with pops of color throughout to inspire us all.
The designer of this space (above) is clearly not afraid of a little color. The red tones behind the bookshelves are a fun surprise of color. And the variety of chairs, all in the same color is a brilliant idea for mixing things up a bit.
This relaxed, Scandinavian space has pops of color in the pillows and other small accessories. You don’t see anything permanent with color, which makes it easy to transition when you’re tired of color. Colorful accent pillows are a great way to add some color to any space.
Art is a fantastic option when adding color. Take this space with all of it’s masculine brown tones. It’s been immediately transformed to a space with big personality because of the art piece behind the table.
I am all about neutral, white spaces. But I still need color present somehow. This kitchen/dining space introduced color in the rug and the striped chair. It’s not overwhelming and still leans itself to be a modern space.

Sometimes it's hard to find a modern table lamp style that is both modern and versatile. Well, Robert Abbey's Delta table lamp will look great in an entryway, bedroom, dining room or living space. And with all the colors, it's perfect for a family home or a bachelor pad!
The glazed ceramic base is topped by an oyster linen shade and the polished nickel finish accents complete the design perfectly. Whether you want a pop of color or a subtle accent to light your room, this is the perfect style table lamp.

Lately, I have been noticing a trend in playhouse beds for kids. Have you seen them? It’s like the ultimate fort that you never take down. And, if you know kids, than you know that they love forts and hate taking them down.
I love this concept, because first and foremost it’s just plain fun, but also because there is a lot of attention on design. It’s almost like designing a mini house within your home. The detail starts with the shape, plays a part in the entrance and the outside and can continue on to the inside. The possibilities are endless.
The playhouse bed can be very modern and simple (as seen above) or ornate with many many details and decorative touches. It’s simply a matter of personal taste and preference.
If you are going for details than this playhouse bed takes the cake (pictured above). I love the attention to design on both the outside and inside. The interior has darling wallpaper and curtains, while the exterior is outfitted with cute little window boxes. But, what really makes the place cozy are the light fixtures adorned on the exterior and interior. Using plug in wall lights on the inside for late night reading is such a great idea. I also think hanging a contemporary ceiling light outside the playhouse would add a very magical starry night effect when looking out your playhouse window.
From a practical standpoint, a playhouse bed is also a great space saver. If you have limited space for a bed then why not build up, leaving plenty of play space below for play?
Or, if you have children sharing a room, like I do, than building a two-story playhouse saves you the space you’d otherwise use up with twin beds. It’s also a creative alternative to traditional bunk beds. And, if it's space you need than there is always the option to build storage drawers beneath the bed, which is a major bonus for stashing all the toys and keeping a tidy room (seen below).
Playhouse beds are obviously a lot of fun, but they are also a great way to get your little ones interested in design and to allow them to have a bit of ownership in decorating their very own little personal space.
If you are looking to have a little fun, be creative, save space and keep your kids room tidy, than a permanent fort in the form of a playhouse bed may just be the way to go. Your kids will love it and I have a sneaking suspicion (the kid in) you will love it too!

Yellow just might be the happiest color there is. It sure does put a smile on my face! You can incorporate yellow into so many different spaces. It’s one of those colors that is bright and colorful but somehow kind of neutral as well.
This room above has a lot of yellow and I like it! It definitely is a happy space, isn’t it? I really like the modern furniture combined with the yellow to make it seem happy and cozy but still clean. I think my favorite part of this whole room is probably the window treatments. So airy and fresh! Combine that with all of the white and cream colors and the whole space feels like a room I could spend the whole day sitting in.
Splash Mimosa Ceramic Rectangular 26-Inch-H Table Lamp, Yellow Spindle Round Accent Table
This yellow sunburst mirror is awesome isn’t it? It would be a great focal piece in a room and mirrors are always great for making a space look and seem larger than it is. Win, win!
The table would be a fantastic accent table or end table by your couch. I love the detailing on it.
The lamp might be my favorite item from this little roundup. The clean modern lines and the bright yellow are awesome. If you have a room that is in need of some pops of colorful happiness, yellow is probably just the thing you are looking for!
