    Modern Shelving

Anyone living with two or more people in their home knows that things can quickly get disorderly and modern shelving is the key to happiness. If two or more of those said people happen to be children, then you know disorder can take on a life of its own without an organization strategy.

Whether you have an abundance of stuff or just the right amount, chances are you are always looking for ways to stack it, sort it and store it.  And for me, modern shelving seems to be the best way to go about it. They're simple and streamlined. Keep in mind that with shelves whatever you store or stack is always on display. The simpler the shelving, the more your books and accessories stand out.

I happen to love the way this works, because when function and design meet it is a beautiful thing.

    White Shelving Unit

When it comes to shelving in a children’s space, I love to keep it simple or go all out creative. The first look showcases how shelves can be used for basic storage.I love the clean look these shelving units provide.

    Home Modular Shelves

On the other end of the spectrum you can use shelves in a more decorative fashion. The idea of backing your shelves with wallpaper to give a unique and one-of-kind look is so fun.  Then just prop your favorite keepsakes or children’s toys to complete the look.  Bonus . . . . fewer toys on the floor.

    Tempered Glass Shelf

Why not let shelves take center stage? When you pick a shelving unit that has modern lines and a great shape it’s like a piece of art. These shelves work great in any room of the house, but I love how they are used in the heart of the home. Dishes put up, taken down, art displayed, toys tossed up and plopped down for play.

Shelves are modern art in action. Now what other piece of home décor can boast that?

  • Get the Look: Kitchen Island Alternative

    Modern Kitchen Design

Let’s face it, what room does everybody in your family conjugate in? The kitchen. While everyone loves a beautiful kitchen island, I’m always looking at how you can mix it up. A great alternative is a table with chairs. Many homes have dedicated nooks, but another option is to have them centered in the room.

When I was young I’d always find myself at the table in our nook working on homework while my mom cooked dinner. With homes being smaller this form of an island is perfect for a family that wants to be together while cooking dinner. Does your family do the same?

I’ve pulled together a few of my favorites for you to see.

I absolutely love this look and I’m designing a few for clients at the moment. I hope you’ve been inspired by this alternative!

    Outfit to Interior

    Modern Living Room

Autumn is still 39 days away, but Ms. Leather + Spice is ready for cooler temps now (and so am I)! She's starting to change up both her wardrobe and her space with warm, rich materials and textures in every nook and cranny.

    Modern Table Lamp

The base of this Black Leather Rectangular Lite Source Table Lamp gets taken up a notch with some white stitching and clean lines. A super smart cool weather look to brighten up an end table or counter space.

Our lady can't wait to hang a trio of these Franklin Iron Works Rust Mini Pendant Lights above the prep space in her kitchen! they lend a beautiful dose of spice and an industrial look.

    Modern Floor Lamp

A pair of these sleek Fuji Stainless Steel with Brown Stacker Bar Stools are a nice accent to Ms. Leather + Spice's eat-in counter. The thick cushion makes a perfect perch for answering emails or flipping through a magazine.

The days are slowly growing shorter, but this Robert Abbey Bruno Bronze Dark Nickel Pharmacy Floor Lamp makes it worth it. Our Miss loves curling up under its focused light.

    Modern Accent Lamp

A pair of Draper Draper White Leatherette Zuo Lounging Chairs make for a cozy, cocoon-like space around the cocktail table. Ms. Leather + Spice's guests always fight for these seats and never want to leave!

This Edison Seeded Glass with Bronze Accent Lamp adds just the right amount of rustic spice to a desk or entryway table, and casts just the right amount of light for the task at hand.

  • Modern Kitchen Design: Subway Tile

    Modern Kitchen Design

Trends come and go in terms of kitchen design - from French country to a sleek modern design. There are thousands of options you can go with and sometimes it's hard to decide which is your favorite.

One that I will never get tired of is white subway tile. Whether it goes to the bottom of the cabinet or all the way up to the ceiling - this look will never go out of style. It's simple, clean and you can add any furniture or lighting to give it your own sense of style.

    Kitchen Design

Luckily with a clean designed kitchen you can add in elements that represent your style – industrial lighting over the table, modern chairs at your dining room table or glam it up with a beautiful chandelier. Skies the limit!

    Great Room Design

Another way to spice it up, change the color of the grout that surrounds your subway tile, which makes a graphic statement.

Now, I’d love to hear your thoughts of what you think of white subway tile in your kitchen. Yay or Nay?

  • Color Crush: Yellow

    Modern Living Room

Yellow just might be the happiest color there is. It sure does put a smile on my face! You can incorporate yellow into so many different spaces. It’s one of those colors that is bright and colorful but somehow kind of neutral as well.

This room above has a lot of yellow and I like it! It definitely is a happy space, isn’t it? I really like the modern furniture combined with the yellow to make it seem happy and cozy but still clean. I think my favorite part of this whole room is probably the window treatments. So airy and fresh! Combine that with all of the white and cream colors and the whole space feels like a room I could spend the whole day sitting in.

    Modern Home Decor

Splash Mimosa Ceramic Rectangular 26-Inch-H Table Lamp, Yellow Spindle Round Accent Table

This yellow sunburst mirror is awesome isn’t it? It would be a great focal piece in a room and mirrors are always great for making a space look and seem larger than it is. Win, win!

The table would be a fantastic accent table or end table by your couch. I love the detailing on it.

The lamp might be my favorite item from this little roundup. The clean modern lines and the bright yellow are awesome. If you have a room that is in need of some pops of colorful happiness, yellow is probably just the thing you are looking for!
