Whether you're a sports aficionado or not, you probably know that the Winter Olympics begins this week. Top athletes will be competing for Gold in Sochi, Russia. Well, we love sports here in the ESL offices but we love home design more.
Which is why we want to show you how to win gold with your home design since, like us, you probably lack the skills to win Olympic gold.
Glitz Filbert Espresso 33-Inch-H Arm Chair / Besa Pogo Collection Gold Pendant
For starters.... Set the mood with gold upholstery on a beautiful modern piece of furniture and then highlight it with a gold pendant, preferably in the shape of an Olympic ring.
Eleganza Starburst Gold Leaf 22-Inch-H Wall Mirror / Regina-Andrew Gilded 49" Golden Sconce
We couldn't help but select this gold pendant that resembles the Olympic flame! And no room should go without a gold starburst mirror in our opinion! Modern mirrors with luxury styling are a great way to bring home the gold...
Zena Gold Leaf 72-Inch-H Arteriors Home Room Screen / Worchester Gold 33 1/2-Inch-H Arteriors Home Console Table
Since we've already included a bold mirror, gold-upholstered chair and a flaming hot wall sconce, let's keep things minimal with the gold furniture. This gold "Olympic ring" screen will add vertical design to the space without being too heavy. The gold-framed console is a great place to add some color on the shelves or just simple gold and white accessories that will compliment the room.
Westoria Brass 7 3/4-Inch-H Bulova Tabletop Clock / Dakota Gold and Black Glass 20-Inch-H End Table
Lastly, you need a distinctive accent table to pair with your gold chair and this gold clock is a beautiful accessory to top off this gold home design.
What do you think?

The fun part about design is that everyone has a style favorite, and often times individuals have to blend their style with their spouse or roommates to create a modern dining room they all love and enjoy.
Today I've created two different boards showcasing varying styles.
Arch Modern White 47-Inch-W Console Table / Kesha Antique Silver with Beveled Glass Round Wall Mirror / HomeBelle 35-Inch-H Set of 2 Transparent Chairs / Possini Chrome 16 1/4-Inch-H Semi Flushmount Ceiling Light
The first one above is very modern, featuring a funky chandelier, sleek console table, and ghost chairs. If you prefer, an elegant drum shade chandelier design would be a great alternative!
The second look below is a mix of rustic, industrial and modern, featuring the rectangular wood table, contemporary chairs, a simple drum pendant and a textured white mirror.

We want to know what look your eye favors! Do you lean toward heavily modern spaces and furniture, or do you like to mix your styles like the second look?

I am all for designing a space that is neutral friendly and classic to the core. But usually I need to add some layer of color somewhere in the space. Most likely I will try and add it in the rug, but you could add color with chic and stylish light fixtures, furniture or even just a few colorful home accessories.
My fave are rugs, they're a rooms best friend, didn’t you know? They add warmth, personality, color and texture. If you get tired of the rug, swap it to a new room. I’m constantly rearranging my rugs and placing them everywhere.
Above is a living space that is dripping with cool and calm. With one decision to place a bright, southwest inspired rug, the space comes alive. And it doesn’t clash with anything else going on in the room.
This rug isn’t overly colorful. It has just enough pattern and color to add some texture to this room. It also compliments the pillows and wood tones, bringing the entire room together.
White spaces are showing up everywhere. If you like this trend but still need some color, take advice from this room and add some primary colors in your rug.
Also because they added colorful books to the shelves, the rug pops that much more!
For a classic approach to this trend, use a traditional rug with more muted colors. It still adds personality in a very calm way.

Wishbone Y Natural Wood Side Chair / Jonathan Adler Nickel Antwerp Desk Lamp
We spotted some stylish office spaces around the internet so we thought we would share them with you. Good office design that is clean and minimal will boost your energy level and help you be more productive.
The white floors in this space above really opens it up. The brightness brings energy and the natural wood pieces add contrast. Contemporary dining chairs are perfect for the office, especially the classics like this Wishbone chair above.
Franklin Iron Works Brewery Bronze Cage Mini Pendant / Contemporary White Plastic 32-Inch-H Side Chairs
If you're like us, you prefer the modern black and white aesthetic. This space above does a great job balancing the two, the black balances with the white to create an organized and stylish office. White, modern tables do a great job setting the tone.
Pascal White Plastic Wood 30 1/2-Inch-H Set of 2 Side Chairs / Draper White Leatherette 22-Inch-H Zuo Lounge Chair
We're proud to share this studio space above... We worked with Emma Robertson to create a beautiful space by providing a couple different chair styles. We loved the way she designed it and we think the studio turned out great!

When we speak of clean design, we often talk about a minimalist, fuss-free sense of style. When we speak of spring and clean, we think of an all-day, knock-em-down and drag-em-out cleaning spree. Put them together and what do you have? A two-step approach to a fresh new look at home.
Step One: Clean House
To keep you house always clean, exercise the "3 thing rule" of putting away or cleaning three things the minute you walk through the door after work. Mail, shoes, remote controls...whatever it is that's out of place. It's so effortless it'll become second nature and it produces results...fast.

Additionally, find a place for everything, as we recently mentioned in our post about how to keep the closet organized. Don't let clutter sit around, no matter how pretty it is. If it doesn't have a dedicated place, get rid of it. It's that simple.
Step Two: Clean Design
Now that your pad is sparkling, it's time to add a few clean looks. Sure, "clean" is about aesthetics, but it can also be about the environment. So for the most energy-saving, landfill de-cluttering design options available today - from modern LED desk lamp designs to versatile and stylish pendant lights - LED lighting is the new look of "clean."
Cerno Silva Baltic Birch Desk Lamp, Casa Metro Brushed Nickel Ceiling Fan, Drake Mini Pendant Light, Holtkoetter Bernie Turbo Nickel Energy Efficient Wall Lamp, AlessiLux Lumiere Silver and White Accent Light
Less clutter in the home. Fewer light bulbs in our landfills. Less energy used. Now that sounds like a spring cleaning plan.
